Dental Implants

Implant Surgery and Osseointegration

Starting with the surgical placement of the implant itself into the jaw is the first stage. At the time of surgery we place a healing cap over the implant to protect it over the next several months (usually 3-6 months). This time is needed for the implant to bond with the jawbone. Once your mouth is fully healed it will be time to see Dr. Phillips. At this point, the last step in this process is restoring your implant with a crown, bridge or denture. Depending on specific needs so it looks like and feels natural.

All-On-4®

Dr. Phillips also offers All-On-4 implants if you are a edentulous patient. This process is as little as four implants, placed in the jaw at strategic angles so that they are capable of supporting a full custom made denture. They will feel like your own natural teeth, you may eat your favorite foods, spend quality time with your friends and enjoy life to its fullest.

FAQs

What is a dental implant?

A dental implant is a cylinder made of biocompatible titanium. Because that titanium is biocompatible, the bone tissue in the patient’s jaw is capable of forming a strong bond with the dental implant. This allows the dental implant to become a root-like structure and support a crown, bridge or denture to replace missing teeth.

How much do dental implants cost?

The cost of dental implants varies from patient to patient and reflects several factors unique to each patient’s situation, such as the number of dental implants being placed and the quality of jawbone tissue, as well as associated services like imaging and follow-up appointments. After evaluating your case, Dr. Phillips will be in a better position to give you a more precise estimate of your anticipated costs.

Am I a candidate for dental implants?

The most important characteristic of successful dental implant patients is the integrity of the bone at the implant site. When patients have sufficient bone tissue, they are likely good candidates for this treatment. When bone loss has already occurred, patients might need to explore alternative options such as bone grafting to improve the chances of successful osseointegration. After evaluating your case, Dr. Phillips can determine whether dental implants will be suitable for you.

How are dental implants placed?

Dental implants are placed in an outpatient surgical procedure in our office’s fully equipped surgical suite. Dr. Phillips will make a small incision at the implant site and create room in the jaw to insert the implant. The incision is then stitched back together. After osseointegration is complete, which takes several months, Dr. Phillips can place the custom-designed restoration on the dental implant.
